Othello
William Shakespeare
“O, beware, my lord, of jealousy: it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.”
Othello has it all. A recently married man of rank, he has enjoyed a glittering military career and has a successful future ahead of him. But Othello has enemies. Enemies that will do anything to bring him down. One of them, Iago, devises a sinister plot to undermine Othello’s reputation, tricking him into a jealous rage that ends in tragedy.Love, jealousy, deception, murder. Othello is an edge-of-the-seat thriller. Changeling’s production promises to fizz with passion, intrigue and dark humour.
Who needs Scandi noir when you’ve got Shakespeare?
The Importance of Being Earnest
Oscar Wilde
“The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”
To be successful in love is to be called Ernest. Or so it is in Oscar Wilde’s satirical masterpiece following the story of two eligible bachelors, Jack and Algy. In love with two women who conveniently claim to only love men named Ernest, Jack and Algy create alter egos called Ernest to win their hearts. But it’s a struggle to keep up with their own stories and they quickly become tangled in a tale of deception, disguise and misadventure. The frankly bonkers plot of this play mocks Victorian sensibilities with some of the best loved and ludicrous characters to be found on the modern stage.
And if that’s not sold it to you, there’s always that line about the handbag.
