James Aburn is a Kent-born composer whose music has been performed across the globe including the USA, Poland, the Czech Republic, and the UK. James achieved his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Aberdeen, where he was also the assistant conductor of the University’s ancient Chapel Choir, working with world-renowned musicians including composers Morten Lauridsen and Sir James MacMillan, and performing at the BBC Proms under the baton of Marin Alsop and Sir Donald Runnicles. He has received multiple commissions, including from JAM on the Marsh Festival, which commissioned Silent Shadows, a piece for string orchestra premiered by the London Mozart Players in July 2019, and programmed again for the upcoming 2023 Summer Festival. James currently teaches music and composition as the Assistant Director of Music at Bede’s Senior School in East Sussex, whilst concurrently working towards his PhD in composition at the University of Aberdeen under the supervision of the celebrated Royal Wedding and Coronation composer, Professor Paul Mealor.
